Winter Wellness Essentials

Winter can be long and cold for some, these are my top winter wellness essentials that I couldn't go without to help get me through, perhaps they could be useful for you too?!

1. Staying Active and Exercising :

Exercise not only gives you more energy, it makes you feel good in general! Just what you need to get through the winter "blues". If you find it hard to workout on your own then find a friend who will want to workout with you, join a group fitness class, exercise from home, hire a personal trainer, play winter sports or sign up to a fitness challenge! Do something that is going to keep you motivated and consistent through the chilly season.

2.Vitamin C:

Having a good dose of vitamin C daily is going to help keep you at work/uni and out of bed with the flu! Find a good quality Vitamin C supplement that you like and incorporate taking it into your daily routine. My recommendation is Be Pure vitamin C powder or even just lemon water, having one of these or even both in the morning is going to give you that boost you need.

3.Warm Healthy Dinners:

You can never go wrong with hot nourishing soup, a crock pot meal or a casserole. There is just something so satisfying about having a warm dish that has a variety of seasonal vegetables, herbs and spices, legumes or meat, its comforting, nourishing and not mention filling. There is such a vast variety of recipes on Pinterest for healthy soups and hot pot dinners, just ensure you use your own flavourings and spices, avoid the packages that have msg and other additives that you don't need.

4. Warm Active Wear

Keep warm while you exercise! If you invest in good quality active wear that is going to keep your warm, especially if you are working out outside, you are more likely to stick to it and finish what you started. I have my "old faithfuls" such as my Lululemon Long Sleeve, it's been with me for 3 years and I wear it every winter, it keeps me warm even when I'm super sweaty but it's freezing cold outside!

5. Sleep

Sleeping gives you ENERGY! Not getting enough sleep is the best way to expose yourself to germs and immunity weaknesses. It can make you feel moody and increase your chance of having the winter blues. If you don’t get enough sleep at night then you have very little chance of getting up on time for your exercise in the morning!

6. Getting outdoors

Get outside in the fresh air and natural sunlight. Soak up that Vitamin D and make the most of days that aren't rainy or snowy!

7. Immune Boosting Tea

This is my go too immunity tea that I absolutely love and swear by, its filled with natural antibodies and will help fight any bugs off before they have you in bed for 2 days!

Recipe: fresh sliced ginger, fresh sliced turmeric, fresh sliced lemon grass, 1 whole lemon squeezed, 1 cap of apple cider vinegar.

In a tea pot of hot boiling place of all your ingredients, let the water absorb the nutrients and flavours from your fresh ingredients for at least 2 minutes before you pour yourself a cup.

Tip: Have the pot brewing on your desk so you can continuously top up your cup :-)

8. Eat Seasonal Vegetables

...and lots of them! Ensure you are getting lots of vegetables into your diet so that your body is getting lots of essential vitamins and minerals it needs to function! By eating vegetables and fruits too that are in season they will be more affordable and really good quality.

I hope you liked this blog post, please share it with your friends if you think they will find these tips useful and add value to their winter motivation.
