When you walk into a store and try on clothes, there’s a chance the first size you pick up might not fit—and guess what? That’s completely okay. When I started my fitness journey, I was fixated on being smaller. I dropped a significant amount of weight and fit into size 8 (sometimes size 10) clothes. On the surface, it seemed like a win. But behind the scenes, I was always hungry and relying on unsustainable workouts like those “fat-blasting” routines from YouTube. I believed that sweating buckets and burning out my muscles meant I was doing something right.
Looking back, I see how misguided that mindset was.
When I finally adopted a proper training routine that included strength training and a balanced approach to fitness, everything changed. I started to gain muscle—and yes, my clothing size changed again, but this time, for the better.
I now feel sexier, stronger, and healthier than ever. My legs have become one of my favourite features because of the muscle and definition I’ve worked hard to build. The number on the tag inside my jeans no longer matters to me because I feel incredible in my skin.
Understanding Your Body and Embracing Your Size
Your body is unique, and so is your journey. It’s important to understand and respect your natural shape and size instead of trying to mould yourself into someone else’s ideal. If the size you try on doesn’t fit, it’s not a sign that something is “wrong” with you—it just means you need a different size or cut that suits your body.
Every body type is different. Some people are naturally petite, while others are tall, curvy, muscular, or a combination of these. None of these shapes are “better” than the other—they’re just different, and that’s what makes us beautiful.

Instead of aspiring to a specific clothing size, let’s shift the focus to building a body that feels good to live in. Feeling strong, energised, and confident is far more rewarding than squeezing into a smaller size that leaves you uncomfortable or constantly hungry.
When you prioritise fitness and health over size, you unlock so much more than a pair of jeans can offer:

Energy to do the things you love without feeling drained.
Confidence to own your body, no matter its size.
Remember, the ultimate goal is not to shrink your body into a label but to nurture it into its healthiest, strongest, and most vibrant form. And trust me, that’s way more satisfying than fitting into a size 8 top.
So next time you’re shopping and the size you pick doesn’t work, don’t beat yourself up. Grab the next size up or down, and find what fits you and makes you feel amazing. Because at the end of the day, your worth is not measured by the size of your clothes, but by how you feel in your body.
